* Put into a zip-top bag and place atop the sugar.
Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 15 x 10-inch jellyroll pan.
Remove walnut bag from jar and set aside for later.
Separate one egg and set the egg white aside for later. Mix the egg yolk with the contents of the jar and 1 cup of softened butter or margarine; mix well. Press dough into pan.
Beat the reserved egg white with 1 tablespoon water until foamy; brush over dough. Sprinkle with the walnuts.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until very light brown. Immediately cut into 3 x 1-inch strips. Cool on a wire rack.
Makes 3 1/2 dozen cookies.
