TVP Taco Filling


  • 2 cups minced TVP, dry
  • 1 3/4 cups boiling water
  • 1 (28 ounce) can tomatoes
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme
  • Pepper to taste


  1. Add the TVP to the boiling water and reconstitute.
  2. In a saucepan, simmer the TVP and the remaining ingredients to blend the flavors.
  3. Serve in a taco shell or wrapped in a soft tortilla with diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream and/or salsa.
