Chianti Granita

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 2 cups Chianti (or other dry red wine)
  • 1/3 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, quartered
  • 1/2 cup fresh raspberries

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients except the berries in a large saucepan and boil for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  2. Freeze overnight.
  3. Shave.
  4. Divide berries among 8 dessert dishes; top each with 1 cup granita.
  5. Serve immediately.
