Italian Red Gravy


  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 small onion, cut into quarters
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed


  1. Simmer gently for 40 minutes, stirring occasionally to break up tomatoes.
  2. Remove the onion and garlic and discard.
