Date Pudding Cobbler

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed, divided
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon cold butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup chopped dates
  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup water
  • Whipped cream, for garnish
  • Ground cinnamon, for garnish


  1. In a bowl, combine flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar and baking powder.
  2. Cut in butter until crumbly.
  3. Gradually add the milk, dates and walnuts.
  4. In saucepan, combine water and remaining brown sugar; bring to a boil. Remove from heat; add the date mixture and mix well.
  5. Transfer to a greased 8-inch square baking pan.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. If desired, top each serving with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkling of cinnamon.
