Vanilla Pie




  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses or light com syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (9-inch) unbaked pie shell


  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup lard, butter, margarine or vegetable shortening


  1. Pie: Combine all pie ingredients, except the vanilla extract, in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and continue boiling until thickened.
  2. Allow to cool, then stir in vanilla extract.
  3. Pour into unbaked shell.
  4. Crumbs: Melt shortening.
  5. Stir in dry ingredients.
  6. Crumble over top of pie.
  7. Bake at 375 degrees F for 50-60 minutes.
