Chocolate Cow Pie

This udder-ly delicious legen-dairy treat incorporates the rich and creamy taste of evaporated milk and cocoa for a decadent dessert.

Chocolate Cow Pie

Ingredients

Filling

  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter, melted
  • 2/3 cup (one 5 fluid ounce can) Nestlé® Carnation® Evaporated Milk
  • 1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust (or use ingredients below and follow directions to make a homemade crust)

Homemade Pie Crust

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, chilled and cubed
  • 1/4 cup ice cold water

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.

Filling

  1. In a large mixing bowl combine sugar, cocoa powder and salt.
  2. In separate bowl whisk eggs vigorously; add melted butter and evaporated milk. Whisk egg mixture into sugar mixture to combine until smooth.
  3. Pour batter into pie crust and place on a baking sheet. Bake on center rack for 45 to 55 minutes. Pies will be slightly loose in center when they come out of the oven. Allow the pies to cool completely before serving (about 2 hours).

Homemade Pie Crust

  1. In a large bowl mix flour, sugar and salt.
  2. Add cubed butter and cut in using a pastry cutter or 2 forks until mixture resembles pea size pieces.
  3. Measure out ice cold water and add to bowl 1 tablespoon at a time, stirring after each addition.
  4. Place pie dough on a lightly floured surface and fold to incorporate flour.
  5. Flatten dough out into disc and wrap with plastic wrap; refrigerate for 2 hours or up to 3 days.
  6. When ready to make pies, roll out dough with rolling pin on a lightly floured surface.
