Double-Look Cake Pie


Top part

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup margarine or shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Lower part

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup hot water
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract


  1. Top part: ream shortening (or margarine), sugar and egg. Add milk alternately with sifted flour and baking powder; add vanilla extract. Set aside.
  2. Lower part: Combine sugar and cocoa. Add hot water and vanilla extract. Pour into unbaked pie crust, then pour top part over lower part.
  3. Bake for 40 minutes in 350 degrees F oven.
  4. Serve as you like, warm or cold, topped or plain.
