Amish Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce
Yield: 4 servings
Ingredients
Bread Pudding
- 4 cups bread crumbs (day-old bread)
- 2 cups milk
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 eggs, slightly beaten
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Ground cinnamon for top
Vanilla Sauce
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 1/2 cups boiling water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
Bread Pudding
- Place bread crumbs in a buttered 1 1/2-quart baking dish.
- In a saucepan, scald milk, then add butter, sugar, eggs, salt, raisins and vanilla extract. Blend well.
- Pour over the bread crumbs; sprinkle with cinnamon.
- Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 to 35 minutes or until top is golden.
- Cut into squares and serve with warm Vanilla sauce.
Vanilla Sauce
- Mix together sugar and cornstarch well.
- Add butter, boiling water and vanilla extract; cook stirring constantly, until thickened but, pourable.
