Dilly Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 package dry yeast, dissolved in 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 cup warmed cottage cheese
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon dry onion flakes
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons dill seed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 unbeaten egg
  • 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients, except flour, in a large bowl.
  2. Gradually stir in flour to make a soft dough.
  3. Put in a warm draft free place and cover with a damp cloth.
  4. Let rise until double in bulk (about 1 hour).
  5. Knead on a well floured board.
  6. Divide in half and place in greased pans.
  7. Cover with damp cloth and let rise until double in bulk.
  8. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes at 350 degrees F.
  9. Brush with butter and sprinkle with salt while still hot.
  10. Makes 2 medium size or 3 mini loaves.
