This is the true Southern way to cook cabbage; my husband and family all want
to know why mine tastes better.
Use high sided, cast iron (only), skillet or Dutch oven; melt about 2 tablespoons
bacon drippings in pan over medium heat.
Cut cabbage into thin, long strips. Put
into pan, sprinkling some salt onto several layers; add more bacon drippings at
top layer, cover, simmer, stirring from bottom on a regular basis. Do not add water
or other liquid, as the cabbage creates much liquid on its own.
I add cut link sausage to this while cooking and make a meal, served with baked
