Oklahoma Fried Onion Cheeseburgers

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 5 hamburger buns
- 5 slices sharp Cheddar cheese
- Additional toppings of your choosing
Instructions
- Place the meat into a mixing bowl, season it with garlic powder, salt and pepper, and mix to combine well.
- Add the butter to a large skillet over medium heat and place 5 piles of sliced onion into the skillet.
- Top each pile of onions with a ball of the meat mixture. Use a spatula to flatten the meat mixture on top of the onions.
- Continue to sauté the meat, onion side down, until the onions have browned, about 6 minutes, then flip and continue to cook the burgers to your liking.
- Place a piece of Cheddar cheese on the bottom each bun, and add the burgers on top of the cheese.
- Add any additional toppings if desired, and serve.
