Fried Corn Cakes


  • 6 cups cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • Salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 cups sour milk or buttermilk
  • Water, as needed


  1. Mix all ingredients, adding just enough water to make of the right consistency — a very heavy batter.
  2. Fry in hot oil in skillet. Turn to brown other side.

Delicious with ranch beans.

Can be eaten cold or hot.
