Pomegranate Syrup (Grenadine)

Homemade grenadine adds distinctive flavor and color to drinks, fruit mixtures, sauces, and desserts and makes a great gift during the holiday season. For a festive holiday aperitif, add 1 or 2 tablespoons to sparkling wine; drop a few fresh or frozen seeds to each glass.

Yield: 16 servings; 1 1/4 cups

Ingredients

  • 1 cup pomegranate juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine pomegranate juice and sugar. Bring to a boil over high heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved; boil for 1 minute.
  2. Remove from heat and cool.
  3. Cover and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
  4. Freeze, in airtight containers, for up to 3 months.
