Sugar-Browned Potatoes (Denmark)



  • 2 pounds new potatoes
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons water


  1. Heat 1 inch salted water to boiling.
  2. Add potatoes. Heat to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and cook until tender, 20 to 25 minutes; drain.
  3. Cook and stir butter, sugar and salt in skillet over medium heat until mixture starts to turn golden brown.
  4. Remove from heat; cool slightly.
  5. Stir in water until blended.
  6. Add potatoes. Cook over low heat, turning potatoes to coat with sugar mixture.

Yields 4 to 6 servings
