Sesame Pound Cake


  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
  • 1/3 cup sesame seeds, toasted and divided
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Fresh fruit (optional)


  1. In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar.
  2. Beat in eggs, one at a time.
  3. Combine milk, vanilla extract and lemon peel; set aside.
  4. Reserving 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, combine remaining sesame seeds with flour, baking powder and salt.
  5. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with milk mixture; mix well.
  6. Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 5-inch loaf pan.
  7. Sprinkle with reserved sesame seeds.
  8. Bake at 325 degrees F for 60 to 70 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted near the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool in pan for 10 minutes; remove to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Serve with fruit if desired.

Yield: 8 to 10 servings
