Anise Cookies

Ingredients

  • 6 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups lard (not shortening)
  • 3/4 to 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 3 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon anise flavoring
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup or less water or wine

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients. Roll into 2-inch diameter balls.
  2. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes at 400 degrees F.
  3. While cookies are still hot, dip lightly into a mixture of 2 tablespoons cinnamon to 1 cup sugar.
