The Shore House Sweet Hot Monte Christo
Yield: 1 sandwich
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon sweet hot mustard
- 2 slices sourdough French bread
- 2 slices Muenster cheese
- 2 slices Canadian bacon
- 3 to 4 thin apple slices
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- 2 tablespoons low-fat milk
- 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- Confectioners' sugar
- Fresh mint sprigs
Instructions
- Spread mustard evenly over one slice of bread.
- Top with 1 slice of the cheese, the Canadian bacon, apple slices and second slice of cheese.
- In shallow baking pan, combine eggs and milk.
- Dip sandwich into egg mixture; allow to soak for 2 minutes. Repeat on other side.
- In a heavy skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Grill sandwich for 3 to 4 minutes per side or until the egg mixture has cooked and reached an internal temperature
of 160 degrees F.
- Drizzle with maple syrup, sprinkle with confectioners' sugar and garnish with mint.
