The Shore House Sweet Hot Monte Christo

Yield: 1 sandwich


  • 1 teaspoon sweet hot mustard
  • 2 slices sourdough French bread
  • 2 slices Muenster cheese
  • 2 slices Canadian bacon
  • 3 to 4 thin apple slices
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons low-fat milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • Confectioners' sugar
  • Fresh mint sprigs


  1. Spread mustard evenly over one slice of bread.
  2. Top with 1 slice of the cheese, the Canadian bacon, apple slices and second slice of cheese.
  3. In shallow baking pan, combine eggs and milk.
  4. Dip sandwich into egg mixture; allow to soak for 2 minutes. Repeat on other side.
  5. In a heavy skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Grill sandwich for 3 to 4 minutes per side or until the egg mixture has cooked and reached an internal temperature of 160 degrees F.
  6. Drizzle with maple syrup, sprinkle with confectioners' sugar and garnish with mint.
