Gingerbread Mix
Ingredients
- 8 cups sifted flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup baking powder
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 tablespoon ginger
- 2 cups shortening
Instructions
- In a large bowl, soft together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt,
baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and ginger. Mix well.
- With a pastry blender, cut in shortening until evenly distributed. Mixture will
resemble cornmeal in texture.
- Put into a large airtight container. Label.
- Store in a cool, dry place.
Use within 10-12 weeks.
Makes about 13 cups of Gingerbread Mix.
Variation: Substitute 2 cups of brown sugar for the granulated sugar.
Gingerbread
- 2 cups Gingerbread Mix
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup molasses
Mix well, and pour into a greased 9-inch pan. Bake for 20 minutes
at 350 degrees F.
