Basic Asian Brown Sauce


  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped


  1. In a saucepan, mix sugar and cornstarch. Stir in chicken broth and soy sauce. Cook and stir until mixture bubbles.
  2. Lower heat and add chopped garlic. Cook until thickened.
