Favorite Apple pie
This is the apple pie that has cream in the filling. The cream in the filling makes all the difference in the world.
Ingredients
- Pastry for double crust pie
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 6 cups thinly sliced apples
- 1/4 cup cream
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon milk
Instructions
- Prepare pastry for a double crust pie. On a lightly floured board, roll out half to a 12 inch round. Fit into a 9 inch pie plate. Trim overhang to 1/2 inch.
- Mix granulated and brown sugars, flour, spices and salt in a small bowl. Spread about 1/3 of the apples into prepared pastry shell. Sprinkle with 1/3 of the sugar and spice mixture. Repeat layering 2 more times.
- Pour cream into the center and dot with butter.
- Heat oven to 400 degrees F.
- Roll out remaining pastry to an 11 inch round. Cut several slits near center to let steam escape. Cover pie; trim overhang to 1/2-inch. Turn edges under and flute.
- Brush top with milk and sprinkle lightly with granulated sugar.
- Bake for 1 hour or until pastry is golden and juice bubbles up.
- Cool for at least one hour before serving.
