Liquados (Mexico)
Liquados or licuados (also known regionally as batidos) are a Latin American handmade blended beverage similar to smoothies, made with milk, fruit and usually ice.
Ingredients
Kumquat Liquado
- 12 kumquats, washed and unpeeled
- 1 cup water or milk
- 3 tablespoons superfine sugar
- 2 handsful ice
Lime Liquado
- 2 large, ripe Mexican limes
- 2 handsful ice
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons superfine sugar
Mango Liquado
- 1/4 cup pureed mango
- 1 cup water or milk
- 2 handsful ice
- 2 tablespoons superfine sugar
- 1/4 cup pureed papaya
- 1 cup water or milk
- 2 handsful ice
- 2 tablespoons superfine sugar
Orange Liquado
- 2 oranges, cut into eighths and juiced
- 1 cup water or milk
- 2 handsful ice
- 2 1/2 tablespoons superfine sugar
Strawberry Liquado
- 10 ripe strawberries
- 1 cup water or milk
- 2 handsful ice
- 2 tablespoons superfine sugar
Tamarind Liquado
- 2 tablespoons tamarind paste
- 1 cup water
- 3 tablespoons superfine sugar
- 2 handsful ice
Instructions
- Kumquat Liquado: Put all ingredients into a blender. Blend for 10 seconds only and immediately strain through a fine sieve into a glass. Drink while still foamy and cold. Make with milk instead of water for a healthier drink.
- Lime Liquado: Cut the limes in half. Squeeze the juice into a blender. Add the remaining ingredients, including the lime rinds. Blend for 10 seconds only and immediately strain through a fine sieve into a glass. Drink while still foamy and cold.
- Mango Liquado: Put all ingredients into a blender and blend for 15 seconds only. Immediately strain through a fine sieve into a glass. Drink while still foamy and cold. Make with milk instead of water for a healthier drink.
- Orange Liquado: Put everything, including the orange peels and juice, into a blender and blend for 4 seconds only. Immediately strain through a fine sieve into a glass. Drink while still foamy and cold.
- Strawberry Liquado: Put everything into a blender and blend for 15 seconds only. Immediately strain through a fine sieve into a glass. Drink while still foamy and cold.
- Tamarind Liquado: Put everything into a blender and blend for 15 seconds only. Immediately strain through a fine sieve into a glass. Drink while still foamy and cold.
